A brass trellis decorated table lamp, the cylinder body with mother of pearl inlay and a brass base and capital, surmounted by a hand sewn silk shade.
Fine inlay requires the skill of a sculptor, the eye of an artist and the patience of a saint. Each piece of inlay is cut out by hand, whether in brass, stainless steel or mother of pearl. This lends each piece the individuality of the craftsmen who worked on it.
We use the time-honoured techniques of lost wax casting, sand casting and wrought iron in our very own foundry. From the hand carved wax to hand polishing and finishing, these processes take time and great care to meet our meticulous standards.
Our lighting includes the largest variety of materials and techniques of all our products. Marble, glass, wood, ceramics and metals are expertly brought together to complete our intricate designs. Each shade is specifically designed for each individual lamp, taking up to eight hours to complete.
Theodore Alexander lampshades are meticulously handmade by skilled craftspeople. Most shades simply require a light dusting with a feather duster or soft brush to remove dust. Vacuum using smooth, light strokes with the small bristle attachment found on most vacuum cleaners, or gently wipe with a soft, clean cloth.
Brass artworks are hand cast in our own foundry, using age-old techniques. Occasional application of an inert wax that does not contain a cleansing agent will preserve the patina of the metal. Avoid using abrasive cloths or polishes that may damage the surface.
